Absolutely repulsive

Israeli girls write messages on a shell at a heavy artillery position near Kiryat Shmona, in northern Israel, next to the Lebanese border, Monday, July 17, 2006.

I found these here and his comments to them are just as repulsive and narrow-minded as the pictures themselves:

It really warms my heart to see those little girls writing on the shells. Arabs have been teaching their kids to hate Israelis for how long now? Israel has long been the target of Arab nations. It’s so freakin asinine how people and more specifically Muslims/Arabs get upset when Israel starts defending itself. I really think we’re probably seeing the beginning of World War III. I knew it’d happen within 5 years.

I am not sure, but perhaps people aren’t seeing pictures like these:

It’s depraved enough that things such as this are even happening, but to then write on the shells - and that young girls are doing it - is… is too much. Absolutely narrow-minded, degenerative, vile and sickening. I’m out of words.

For fuck’s sake. Do we need to fly people to these places and give them a local guided tour through the bloodshed before they regain their humanity?

Sometimes I just cannot understand how people - human beings - can be so loathesome to one another. When I see things like this it really chills me. I’m out.

Edit: Just something I heard today, as a caption for the above photos - “Israel’s Hitler Youth”

Wow. I’m stunned. This is the most disturbing photo I’ve seen in a while. Thanks for posting it Pascal. I hope that with time people everywhere can find some compassion and understanding for cultures other than their own. It all needs to start with the children, and educating kids to have such hate and disregard for life as this…. well, it just starts the cycle again doesn’t it.

The problem with the whole middle east is that, collectively, it’s been fighting itself for centuries. The moderates have died, long ago, leaving only the fanatics with the bastard courage to commit atrocities on eachother in retaliation for the atrocities committed on them. There is no “peace road map”, there will be no end, until the entire area is declared an unownable, uninhabitable wasteland, either by nuclear or chemical methods. That’s my uncompromising position.

There are too many factions, too many underground resistance movements, too many people that believe in martyrdom. There is too much oil and gas underground and too many holy sites on top to leave the area uncontrolled. There is too much money and arms flowing into the place from outside factions who wish one or another country to succeed. It’s a lost cause.

It’s sad to se how death to others is taught as a good thing.
I have no idea how they sleep at night.

A person is wrong. Against everything you believe in. A whole army is behind you. Which is the more humane solution?

    Destroying them
    Destroying yourself
Destroying what they believe, in an attempt to harmonise
Destroying what you believe, in an attempt to harmonise
    Ignore everything

It’s an interesting question. How many alternatives are there to the above? Another interesting question is: “Will wordpress allow me to post HTML,” which I’m hoping you’ll edit for me if it doesn’t, Pascal.

    Compromise.

Ashley: you didn’t include any HTML in your comment…?

I echo your sentiments, it’s absolutely repulsive.

Defending yourself is one thing, literally breeding hate is another.

In terms of child abuse inflicted by their own side, I would call this relatively benign. For
the children involved in this photograph, the writing of these messages may even have
some healing effect in what must obviously be a very troubling situation.

which for some reason hasn’t been caught yet by planet slug.

I very much disagree. I’m no psychiatrist, but that only promotes the hatred. I think it is absolutely wrong to allow children, young people of such an age as depicted in the first three photographs, to engage in such acts of hatred - it only promotes it and these feelings will be very difficult to overcome in their later stages of life.

Concerning your response, on your blog:

Edit: I’ve made a new entry for the your response. It is here.

    Cheers. :)

Erik: I completely missed your response to my blog entry on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s letter to George Bush.

I agree with your entry - I didn’t really point out that Ahmadinejad wasn’t the most accepting guy either. Calling for the destruction of Israel is definitely not something that goes down well when stated publicly on the political landscape, but from reading the letter one does gain an understanding - at least an insightt - into why so many Arabs are angry with the actions of Israel.

I suggest for those who still have not read the letter to give it a read. It’s available on Wikisource, here.

Thanks for linking to it in your recent blog entry.

Wow…… Don’t know what to say other than it will take many generations of evolutionary change, the teachings by parents and other adults, to learn I guess.
Who is going to start it??
