sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Running Ubuntu Dapper Drake, also known as the unstable or development version of Ubuntu is like a rollercoaster ride. It is exciting and rewarding reading the mailing lists, particularly for me the ubuntu-art list, where I can influence what I end up downloading via apt the following day. I ran my daily update this morning and as usual after each update-upgrade, almost like a surprise, I come across a new feature or function or fix. It's great and something I sort of have begun to look forward to each day. Reminds me of when I was a little kid back when our family lived in Germany and how each and every time mum took me along to the supermarket I begged for one of those Kinder Surprise eggs. Every time I got to open one I was happily surprised to find something new.
And now, scrolling forward to the present I am even happier, as what I am downloading is free, not just in the sense of 'free beer' but also in the sense of 'free speech', which makes it even more exciting. So to finish off this entry, a big cheers to the rest of the Ubuntu development team for this morning after booting my laptop at a cafe with some friends my sound card was working nicely, without the need for me to look into the earlier problem of the audio audibility.
Rock on folks!
Edit: I thought I might just add something quite ironic. Note that I said I am running Dapper Drake, the development, unstable version of what will be Ubuntu 6.06, when it comes out in late May. Now, from personal experience, this unstable development version is more stable than Windows XP. ^^

Just back from 2 day jaunt, checks laptop, more Dapper updates!
I seriously recommend trying Epiphany-browser instead of Firefox. It still uses the Gecko rendering engine, but the interface is all native-Gnome — lightning fast baby!
I have it installed though it does not have all the extensions I like to use daily with Firefox. I’ll have another look at it though.
