‘Kororaa-Chris’, as I shall refer to him since he and ‘Molly’ spearhead Kororaa, kindly came over this afternoon. I sort of tempted him with food and drink, and mum kindly helped in the regard. He’s had experience with the 855/915-resolution package before and he showed me how to do it. Now I am typing this entry from my lovely laptop with it’s 15.4” WSXGA+ crystal clear display. Crisp and sharp coming from 1024x768 15” LCD to this display running 1680x1050. Cheers go to Chris. Hope the soup made it worth coming over.
I spent Sunday evening moving all my data from my PC over to the laptop, including a fraction of our music collection. All that really remains now are my Firefox bookmarkings and some hardware-driver issues. The sound is rather inaudible under Ubuntu (loud enough on SUSE though). Just got to figure out what’s making it so quiet. Then comes the wireless card. Currently there does not seem to be an open source driver for it, but it’s been filed as a bug in the Ubuntu bug tracking system with an upstream status. I have not tested bluetooth and the proprietary 3D drivers for the graphics card aren’t needed at the moment. So for my work needs the laptop is already proving to be very useful.
So I suppose some screenshots are in order to show pimp my desktop. I’ll add them tomorrow afternoon. Kinda late at the moment.
