Tango and Ubuntu goodness

I’m typing this right after a LUG meet-up. Dad and I just got home 15 minutes ago, at 11:45 as we stayed back standing in a circle with several others just chatting and laughing. More to the topic, I presented at the meet-up on the Tango Desktop Project and touched on branding artwork, some upcoming goodness on Ubuntu and so forth.

Turns out, the guys who look after the brand new, XGL and Compiz-displaying kick ass livecd, Kororaa live here in Canberra! After the talk I had a chat with the two of them and it seems they’d be rather interested in using Tango for their next release, due within the week! The next release will include KDE and be installable. Very cool.

In other news, the Australian Ubuntu Local Community Team was founded today, announced on the general LA list:

Good morning freedom lovers!

Today we are very pleased to announce the formation of the Australian Ubuntu Local Community Team. We’re working on distributing, advertising and demoing Ubuntu within Australia, focusing on schools, business and home users.

A number of communications tools have been stablished for discussion about local issues and projects:

Mail list: ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com
Subscribe: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au
IRC chat: #ubuntu-au on irc.freenode.net

Please check our team’s wiki page for more info:

Thanks,

(I figured this may be of interest to linux-aus folks and my LUG comrades
here in Sydney - please pass it on to other LUGs as you see fit!)
